Orpington Constituency

Orpington is a parliamentary constituency within the London Borough of Bromley, covering the eastern and southern parts of the borough.

The constituency includes Orpington itself, surrounding suburban communities including Petts Wood, Crofton and the Crays, as well as more rural areas and villages towards the southern edge of Greater London.

Created in 1945, Orpington is geographically one of London’s largest parliamentary constituencies and combines busy town centres, established residential communities and significant areas of countryside and Green Belt land.

That last point is particularly relevant to the local issues section of the website, without needing to make this page political.

For local government elections, the constituency is divided into seven electoral wards. Each ward elects councillors to represent local residents on Bromley Council.

Orpington has a distinctive character within Greater London. While much of the constituency is suburban, its southern areas contain significant stretches of countryside, farmland and Green Belt.

The area is well connected to central London and Kent, while retaining a strong local identity across communities including Orpington, Petts Wood, the Crays, Chelsfield, Crofton and Farnborough.

Protecting and improving these communities means recognising that different parts of the constituency can face very different local issues — from development and transport to high streets, public services and the protection of green spaces.
